Tip 10 for Overcoming Challenges: Learn When to Say No
It took me awhile to realize that there are times when I really can’t do everything that I perceive as worthwhile and important. In fact, I am still learning that lesson.
Keep evaluating invitations and activities against your values and what you are trying to create in your life. Ensure you plan some downtime in your life. Part of overcoming challenges and managing change is not over-committing yourself to the point you don’t know if you are coming or going. Look for alternatives and negotiate what will serve you.
And on that subject, I made a commitment almost two weeks ago when I wrote about my biggest challenge- a spinal cord injury. I decided to stretch myself by writing 10 consecutive blogs with tips for overcoming challenges. Yeah! I did it. And now… I’m deciding that I will say “no” to daily blogging! I have enjoyed the challenge of it; I have enjoyed the responses to it. But, as I evaluate what I am trying to create in my life, I’m realizing that daily is too much for me. I did want to see what it felt like and if I could do it. Whew! I met my own challenge to write daily until I finished this topic. But now, I am thinking that weekly may be enough… maybe twice a week if I have something extra to say. I think I’m done till Monday.
Thanks to those of you who have read these musings consistently over the past several days. And a special thanks to those who told their cousins and others to check it out. It’s really a thrill to have people from different states and countries read what I’ve written.
